New Year New You

It is only the second week of the new year and we are seeing a large influx of patients with new onset foot pain.  The first questions we always ask is whether or not the patient has had a sudden change in activity.  Almost all reply "yes!"

As people begin to grab the new year by the horns and settle in to what will hopefully be a consistent lifestyle change, many don't do the necessary things to prepare.  Here are some simple precautions that can make your gym membership make it past the end of the month.

1) New Year, new shoes.  Fine a comfortable accommodative supportive shoe that will allow you to do your desired activity with the best support.

2) Custom orthotic evaluation.  As you begin to exercise you may notice a feeling of instability or lack of support.  A custom orthotic device can alleviate this and prevent future issues.

3)Stretching, stretching, stretching. Staying loose and pliable can be the answer to many of the issues you may experience with a new exercise routine.

4)See your doctor.  See your PCP, let them know of the change and they can offer advice on supplements, dietary changes and hydration.

5) See your foot doctor!  We can evaluate your feet, stance, gait and posture and make sure you are in the best form to create the best version of you!
