Blisters come from the friction between skin layers. This friction causes your body to simply produce fluid to protect against continued trauma.
Most times, those small pockets of fluid, usually clear plasma, but sometimes blood, are just irritating. But, if you are a diabetic, have poor circulation, or a compromised immune system, and don’t properly disinfect one that pops, little blisters can lead to big health problems. The danger is that if a blister bursts, or starts to bleed, it progresses to an open wound and you have the potential to get an infection that can go all the way up your leg.
If you get a blister, come see one of our expert podiatrists at Advanced Podiatry of Manhasset, Huntington, Coram, Plainview, Mineola, Williston Park & Maspeth, NY, to have your blister appropriately treated and prevent Infection.
