Sever's Disease in Manhasset, Huntington, Coram, Woodbury, Mineola, Williston Park & Maspeth, Plainview NY

This is a very common painful condition commonly found in Boys and Girls between the ages of 7 and 15.  Typically these kids are very active with sports including Soccer, LaCrosse, Basketball and Track. This is an irritation of the growth plate in the heel bone.  Typically pain is worse during activity and generally can improve with Rest, Ice, Stretching, Physical Therapy, Custom Orthotic Inserts, Night Sprints, and Anti-inflammatory medications.

This is known as Osteochondritis of the Calcaneous.   A fracture can occur in the growth plate. During a growth spurt, your child’s heel bone may grow faster than the muscles, ligaments, and tendons in the leg and foot. In fact, the heel is one of your child’s first body parts to reach full adult size. When the muscles and tendons can’t grow fast enough to keep up, they are stretched too tight and they pull on the back of the heel causing this very painful condition.
